Who may be able to join

  • People aged 50 years or older.
  • People who have a diagnosis of depression clearly recorded by a doctor in their electronic medical record at the start of the study.
  • People whose electronic medical record contains complete baseline information, including at least basic personal details (such as age and sex), health conditions, and medication history.
  • People who have at least one follow-up medical record entry available, so that the study team can track whether dementia develops over time.
  • People who have given their consent for their routine medical record data to be used in this research.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who already have any type of dementia recorded in their medical record at the start of the study, including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, or other types.
  • People whose medical records show that a dementia diagnosis came before their depression diagnosis, or where the order of the two diagnoses cannot be clearly determined.
  • People who have certain other neurological conditions recorded at the start of the study that may independently cause serious memory or thinking problems, such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, a brain tumour, or normal pressure hydrocephalus.
  • People whose electronic medical records are missing key baseline information needed for the study's risk analysis.
  • People whose follow-up records are incomplete or where the development of dementia cannot be clearly confirmed through the medical record system.
  • People who have declined to take part in the study or who have withdrawn their consent.
