Who might be able to join this trial:
If you have fibromyalgia (Cases group):
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have been formally diagnosed with fibromyalgia based on recognised 2016 medical guidelines
- You have had ongoing pain (not related to cancer) for at least 3 months
- You are able to read, understand, and fill in questionnaires on your own in Italian
- You are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
If you have chronic pain but NOT fibromyalgia (Controls group):
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have had ongoing pain (not related to cancer) for at least 3 months, with a clear, identified physical cause (such as a documented joint, bone, or nerve condition)
- You have not been diagnosed with fibromyalgia
- You are able to read, understand, and fill in questionnaires on your own in Italian
- You are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- You currently have cancer or pain caused by cancer
- You have been diagnosed with a mental health condition — either now or in the past — other than depression (Major Depressive Disorder) or Panic Disorder
- You have significant memory or thinking difficulties that would prevent you from completing questionnaires
- You are unable to understand or complete questionnaires written in Italian
- (Controls group only) You have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia or a similar widespread pain condition
Please note: Taking medication for pain or mental health does not automatically stop you from joining either group.
