Who may be able to join
- Women aged 18 or older who are in generally good health and able to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation (as measured by a standard medical scoring tool called ECOG, with a score of 0 or 1)
- People with a confirmed diagnosis of invasive breast cancer or a non-invasive type called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), confirmed through laboratory testing of tissue
- People whose scans have confirmed breast cancer affecting multiple areas or sites within one breast only
- People whose scans show no sign that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body
- People whose medical team has assessed that all tumour areas can be fully removed through breast-conserving surgery (surgery that removes the cancer while keeping most of the breast), with clear margins, and who are suitable to receive standard whole-breast radiation therapy afterwards
- People whose heart, liver, kidneys, and blood system are functioning well enough to safely undergo surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy
- People who have been fully informed about the study's purpose, procedures, and potential risks and benefits, and who have agreed in writing to take part
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People with inflammatory breast cancer
- People whose cancer is too widespread to be fully removed through breast-conserving surgery, or where clear surgical margins cannot be achieved
- People with serious problems with the heart, liver, kidneys, or lungs that would make surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy unsafe
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as they would not be eligible to receive radiation therapy after surgery
- People who are unwilling or unable to attend long-term follow-up appointments and take part in ongoing data collection after the study
