Who may be able to join
Friedreich ataxia group:
- People aged 12 to 50 years who have been diagnosed with Friedreich ataxia through genetic testing
- People who are able to sit or stand on their own for at least 5 minutes
- People who are able to give informed consent, or, if under 16 years old, able to give assent with a parent or guardian also giving consent
- People whose medications have not changed in the past 4 weeks
Healthy control group:
- People aged 12 to 50 years who have not been diagnosed with Friedreich ataxia through genetic testing
- People who are able to sit or stand on their own for at least 5 minutes
- People who are able to give informed consent, or, if under 16 years old, able to give assent with a parent or guardian also giving consent
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
Friedreich ataxia group:
- People aged 11 years or younger, or 51 years or older
- People with severe cognitive difficulties that would prevent them from understanding and completing the trial tasks
- People with an active seizure condition, or a balance or inner ear problem that causes nausea when using non-immersive virtual reality
- People who are currently taking part in another interventional clinical trial
- People without a reliable internet connection that cannot be resolved by a digital support kit provided by the trial (confirm with trial site)
- People with any health reason that would make it unsafe to take part in moderate-intensity exercise
Healthy control group:
- People aged 11 years or younger, or 51 years or older
- People who have been diagnosed with Friedreich ataxia through genetic testing
- People with any health reason that would make it unsafe to take part in moderate-intensity exercise
