Who may be able to join

  • Women between the ages of 18 and 65.
  • People who are scheduled for a planned surgery to remove the breast and some surrounding tissue (called a modified radical mastectomy) under general anesthesia.

  • People who regularly use opioid pain medications or have long-term pain requiring ongoing pain relief treatment.
  • People with serious liver or kidney disease.
  • People with severe lung disease.
  • People who have taken opioid pain medications within 24 hours before surgery.
  • People with cognitive impairment or difficulty completing post-surgery assessments.
  • People who are having revision (repeat) breast surgery.
  • People who do not wish to take part in the study.
