Back to Ovarian Cancer
NCT00008138
NCT00008138
Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with stage III or IV ovarian cancer, primary peritoneal cancer, or fallopian tube cancer, confirmed by a tissue or cell sample
- Your cancer is a specific type called adenocarcinoma, and you have a large pelvic or abdominal tumour and/or fluid build-up around the lungs
- Your doctors believe it is unlikely that surgery could remove most of the tumour
- Your blood test shows a CA 125 level of at least 70 units/mL (a tumour marker measured in blood)
- You are reasonably active and able to care for yourself (confirm with trial site for exact fitness level required)
- Your blood cell counts are within acceptable ranges — enough white blood cells and platelets
- Your liver is functioning well enough, based on blood tests
- Your kidneys are working well enough to filter waste from your blood
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and if you could become pregnant, you are using effective contraception
Who may not be able to join:
- Your tumour is classified as "borderline" or "low-malignant potential" (a less aggressive tumour type)
- Your stage IV cancer involves spread to the liver tissue, lungs, or other distant organs (fluid around the lungs only is acceptable)
- You have heart failure, an irregular heartbeat, or have had a heart attack or chest pain (angina) within the last 6 months
- You have significant nerve damage causing numbness or similar symptoms (confirm with trial site)
- You have severe stomach or bowel problems, such as a partial blockage or bleeding
- You have had another cancer within the last 5 years (with some exceptions for certain early-stage or skin cancers that were fully treated)
- You have an active infection that is not under control
- You have previously received chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or radiation to the pelvis for this cancer
- You have previously had major surgery to remove the tumour (such as removal of both ovaries, the uterus, and the omentum together)
- You are currently receiving any other cancer treatment
