Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
  • Your blood sugar is not well controlled, meaning a recent blood test (called an HbA1c) showed a result between 7.0% and 10.5%.
  • You are 30 years of age or older with a history of a heart or blood vessel problem, OR you are 50 years of age or older with a high risk of developing heart or blood vessel problems.
  • You are either not currently taking any diabetes medications, or you are taking one or more approved diabetes medications to help control your blood sugar.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a history of a serious diabetes complication called diabetic ketoacidosis, type 1 diabetes, a pancreas or insulin-cell transplant, or diabetes caused by a pancreas condition or surgery.
  • You have had one or more severe low blood sugar episodes in the 6 months before joining the study.
  • You have a rare inherited condition affecting how your body processes certain sugars (confirm with trial site).
  • You have a thyroid condition that is not well controlled.
  • You have serious kidney disease that required immune-suppressing treatment, or you have a history of long-term dialysis or a kidney transplant.
  • You have had a heart attack, severe chest pain, a heart or blood vessel procedure, or a stroke within the 3 months before joining the study.
