  • The person has been diagnosed with a major psychiatric or physical health condition other than Parkinson's disease.
  • The person has a history of alcohol or drug misuse, as assessed by a recognised screening tool or clinical judgement.
  • The person has epilepsy.
  • The person has had a brain bleed or has a history of brain bleeding.
  • The person is pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • The person has claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces).
  • The person smokes or uses any tobacco product, including snuff.
  • The person's dominant hand is their left hand.
  • The person has an implanted medical device inside their body, such as a pacemaker.
  • The person has aneurysm clips in their head.
  • The person has a shunt in their head.
  • The person has shrapnel, grenade fragments, or metal splinters anywhere in their body, including in the eyes.
  • The person has metal or electrodes inside their body, such as a heart stent, cochlear implant, or temperature catheter.
  • The person has extensive dental implants or dentures.
  • The person has had surgery on their head.
  • The person has had surgery on their heart.
  • The person has swallowed a video capsule (a small camera pill used to examine the gut).
  • The trial investigator has another reason to consider the person unsuitable for participation.
  • The person has IBS.
  • The person has another confirmed gut or digestive disease, such as inflammatory bowel disease, or has Parkinson's disease.

  • The following criteria apply to healthy control participants (confirm with trial site):
  • The person is male or female, aged 18 to 85 years.
  • The person has provided signed informed consent.
  • The person is currently using or has recently used medications that affect gut bacteria, gut function, or mood — such as antidepressants (within 12 weeks) or antibiotics (within 12 weeks).
  • The person has no ongoing gut or digestive symptoms.
  • The person is currently using or has recently used (within the past 4 weeks) nutritional supplements or herbal products that affect gut function or mood, such as aloe vera, St. John's Wort, probiotics, or prebiotics.
  • The person has been diagnosed with a major psychiatric or physical health condition.
  • The person has a history of alcohol or drug misuse, as assessed by a recognised screening tool or clinical judgement.
  • The person has taken proton pump inhibitors (medications that reduce stomach acid, such as omeprazole) within the past 4 weeks.
  • The person has epilepsy.
  • The person has had a brain bleed or has a history of brain bleeding.
  • The person is pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • The person has claustrophobia.
  • The person smokes or uses any tobacco product, including snuff.
  • The person's dominant hand is their left hand.
  • The person has an implanted medical device inside their body, such as a pacemaker.
