Who may be able to join
- Adults aged 18 to 80 years old.
- People who have been diagnosed with an acute ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel in the brain) classified as either a complete or partial front-of-brain circulation stroke, based on a recognised stroke classification system.
- People who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, confirmed by medical records, according to Chinese diabetes guidelines (2020 edition).
- People who arrived at hospital within 48 hours of their stroke starting — if the exact start time is unknown, the time when the person last appeared well is used as the starting point.
- People experiencing their first-ever ischemic stroke, or people who have had a previous ischemic stroke but had little to no lasting disability before this stroke occurred.
- People with a stroke severity score (NIHSS) between 6 and 20.
- People who have given signed written consent to participate, either themselves or through their legal representative.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People whose brain scans show any type of bleeding in or around the brain, such as a brain bleed, blood clot between the brain and skull, or bleeding in the spaces around the brain.
- People who have had, or are planned to have, a procedure to physically open or treat a blocked blood vessel in the brain (intravascular interventional therapy) after the stroke.
- People who have received, or are planned to receive, clot-dissolving medication given through a drip (intravenous thrombolysis) after the stroke.
- People with a severe reduction in consciousness, as measured by a specific part of the stroke severity scoring scale (NIHSS consciousness score of 2 or more).
- People who have a bone fracture, limb pain when walking, or other conditions that would affect the ability to measure physical function scores at the time of admission.
- People who have already been given certain specific brain-protective or blood-flow medications (Edaravone injection, Edaravone and Dexborneol solution, Butylphthalide injection, or Butylphthalide soft capsules) after this stroke occurred.
- People who have already received certain traditional Chinese medicine injections aimed at improving blood flow to the brain after this stroke occurred (confirm specific medicines with trial site).
- People whose blood pressure is lower than 90/60 mmHg at the time of admission.
- People with a history of severe food or drug allergies, or who have previously had an allergic reaction or intolerance to the study drug (Eurecline injection).
- People who have taken a type of blood-pressure medication called an ACE inhibitor (ACEI) and have not yet waited the required clearance time before starting the study drug (confirm timeframe with trial site).
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant within 90 days.
- People with kidney failure or severely reduced kidney function at the time of screening (creatinine clearance below 30 ml/min).
- People with significant liver problems, including liver enzyme levels more than 2.5 times the upper normal limit, or known serious liver conditions such as active hepatitis or cirrhosis.
- People who have experienced heart failure (classified as severe — NYHA class III or IV), unstable chest pain, a heart attack, serious irregular heart rhythms, or significant heart conduction problems in the 6 months before joining the trial.
- People who have been drinking heavily in the 3 months before screening, defined as 5 or more standard drinks per day (where one standard drink equals approximately 120 ml of wine, 360 ml of beer, or 45 ml of spirits).
- People who have misused or been dependent on drugs or narcotics in the past year.
- People with a cancer diagnosis or serious illness where survival is expected to be less than 90 days.
- People with serious mental health conditions or dementia that would prevent them from giving informed consent or completing follow-up visits.
- People who have taken part in any other clinical trial involving a drug or medical device in the 3 months before screening.
