Who may be able to join
- People diagnosed with Parkinson's disease who are 40 years of age or older.
- People with Parkinson's disease who either have no memory or thinking concerns, or who have some concerns but these do not affect their ability to carry out daily activities.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People with diabetes that is not well controlled, or who have nerve damage in their hands or feet (peripheral neuropathy).
- People with high blood pressure that is not well controlled (readings above 160/100 mmHg).
- People with diabetes that is not well managed, including very high fasting blood sugar levels, eye damage caused by diabetes, or a serious diabetes-related complication called diabetic ketoacidosis.
- People with cholesterol levels that are not well controlled (total cholesterol above 220 mg/dL).
- People who have a pre-existing condition where the immune system attacks the body (autoimmune disease).
- People who have had an infection within the last month.
- People with a neurological (brain or nerve) condition that would prevent them from being able to participate in physical training.
- People with a history of anaemia, stroke or other blood vessel problems in the brain, or a heart attack within the last 6 months.
- People who have previously had a blood clot in a deep vein (deep vein thrombosis).
- People who have smoked within the last 6 months.
- People who have symptoms caused by blocked arteries in the legs or limbs.
- People with significant thinking or memory difficulties, based on a standard cognitive test score below 24.
