Who may be able to join

  • People with physical or health conditions that would make high-intensity cycling exercise unsafe, including joint or bone problems that limit cycling, significant heart problems (such as irregular heartbeat or severely uncontrolled high blood pressure), diagnosed diabetes, kidney disease, sickle cell anemia, or cancer that has been in remission for less than 6 months
  • People with a known history of slow wound healing
  • People with an allergy to lidocaine (a type of local anaesthetic)
  • People with a latex allergy
  • People who are currently pregnant
  • People with more than 1.5 inches of fat tissue beneath the skin over the thigh muscle
  • People experiencing symptoms that may suggest heart, lung, metabolic, or kidney problems — such as chest, jaw, arm, or leg discomfort; shortness of breath at rest or with light activity; dizziness or fainting; breathing difficulties when lying down or at night; a racing or irregular heartbeat; leg cramping during activity; a known heart murmur; ankle swelling; or unusual fatigue during everyday tasks
