Who may and may not be able to join

AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI

Who may be able to join

  • People who have a confirmed diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD)
  • People who have access to the internet and email
  • People who are willing to complete thinking and memory tests, fill out questionnaires, wear a movement-tracking wristband device, and be randomly assigned to a study group
  • People who are not currently doing enough physical activity, based on a score of less than 14 on a standard leisure-time exercise questionnaire
  • People who are able to walk around on their own without help from another person or a walking aid
  • People aged 50 years or older
  • People whose primary language is English
  • People who have no concerning health symptoms before exercising (one or fewer "yes" answers on a standard health screening questionnaire), or people with two or more "yes" answers on that questionnaire who have received approval from their doctor to take part in exercise training

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who do not meet the inclusion criteria listed above
  • People whose answers on the health screening questionnaire suggest a moderate or high risk of injury or serious harm from intense or maximum-effort exercise
  • People with severe difficulties with thinking and memory, based on a score of less than 18 on a standard phone-based cognitive screening test
  • People whose thinking and memory abilities are in the normal range, based on a score of 26 or more on a standard cognitive assessment tool (this is to ensure the study can meaningfully measure changes in cognitive function)
