Who may be able to join

  • The person must have signed an informed consent form at the time of joining the study.
  • The person must be between 30 and 70 years old.
  • The person must have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (according to American Diabetes Association standards) for at least 6 months.

  • The person must have had a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher during the 3 months before being assigned to a treatment group.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who regularly take corticosteroids (a type of anti-inflammatory medication) or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen) three or more times per week on an ongoing basis, as these medications can affect the body's inflammation levels.
  • People who have a clear medical need for two antiplatelet medications at the same time (such as blood-thinning treatments) or who are on a full-dose anticoagulant (blood-thinning) therapy.
  • People who currently have cancer, or who have been in full remission from cancer for less than one year — though certain early-stage treated skin cancers may be an exception (confirm with trial site).
  • Women who are able to become pregnant and are currently pregnant.
