Who may not be able to join

- People whose sleep problems are caused by another condition, such as restless leg syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, sleep-related breathing disorders, physical illness, mental health conditions, or substance misuse.
- People who have conditions that make flashing light stimulation unsafe, such as photosensitive skin conditions or epilepsy.
- People who have regularly used alcohol, caffeine, or drugs in a problematic way in the past 6 months.
- People who have a mental health condition such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, or post-traumatic stress disorder related to their sleep problems.
- People who have used medications or health products that affect sleep within 14 days before joining, or within less than 5 half-lives of such a medication (confirm with trial site).
- People who have taken medications that may affect thinking or memory — such as anticholinergic drugs or memory-enhancing drugs — within 7 days before joining.
- People who are unable to complete the required tests or follow-up visits.
- People who have another neurodegenerative disease (a condition involving progressive loss of nerve cell function).
- People who have implants in their body that are not compatible with MRI scanning.
- People who are unable to lie flat.
- People whom the research team considers unsuitable to participate for any other reason.
