Who may be able to join
- People aged between 18 and 80 years
- People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease by a movement disorder neurologist, using recognised international diagnostic guidelines (MDS criteria)
- People whose Parkinson's symptoms fall within a mild to moderate range, as measured by a scale called the Modified Hoehn and Yahr (stages 1 to 2.5)
- People who have never previously used a medication called entacapone
- People who score 26 or higher on a standard memory and thinking test called the MMSE
- People who score below 15 on a depression questionnaire called the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI)
- People who have either never taken levodopa before, or who have been on a steady dose of levodopa (between 300–600 mg per day) for at least one month before joining
- People taking certain other Parkinson's medications (amantadine, anticholinergics, dopamine agonists, selegiline, or rasagiline) may still be eligible, provided the dose has been stable for at least 30 days before and throughout the study
- People who are willing and able to agree to participate and follow study procedures, with caregiver support if needed
Who may not be able to join

- People who have used entacapone or a similar medication called tolcapone for more than 30 days in total, or within 4 weeks before the study start date
- People who have used dopamine agonist medications within 4 weeks before the study start date
- People who score 15 or higher on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI)
- People who score below 26 on the MMSE memory and thinking test
- People whose levodopa dose has not been stable
- People who have a history of involuntary movements caused by Parkinson's medication (known as dyskinesia)
- People diagnosed with an atypical or secondary form of parkinsonism, or who have had brain surgery related to Parkinson's Disease
- People with significant health conditions in the past 5 years that could interfere with taking part in the study (confirm with trial site)
- People taking medications known to cause Parkinson's-like symptoms as a side effect
- People who have taken part in another clinical drug trial within 30 days before the study start date
