Who may be able to join

  • The person is willing and able to give their informed consent to take part in the study.
  • The person is male or female, aged 18 years or older.
  • The person has had a Medtronic Percept or similar deep brain stimulation (DBS) device implanted as part of their normal medical care — specifically one that can record a type of brain signal called local field potentials (LFPs), or has temporary recording electrodes in place as part of routine care.
  • The person is willing and able to tolerate a procedure called transcranial ultrasound stimulation, which involves applying sound waves to the head from outside the skull.
  • The person's current treatments and medications have been stable, with no changes in the past 6 weeks.
  • A specific type of brain signal pattern (called a "beta peak") can be detected in the person's recordings at the screening stage.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who have a significant language barrier that means they cannot understand the purpose or instructions of the study, even with the help of an interpreter.
  • People whose implanted electrodes do not have the ability to send or receive signals wirelessly (no telemetric capacity).
  • People who have another neurological condition alongside their main diagnosis that could affect the study results, for example a second condition affecting movement.
  • People who have a fever (body temperature above 38°C) at the time of their study visit.
