  • People between the ages of 40 and 70 years old.
  • People who are generally in good health based on their medical history and a physical check-up.
  • People without diabetes or pre-diabetes (based on American Diabetes Association guidelines, meaning blood sugar levels are in a healthy range and no blood sugar-lowering medications are being taken) and who have a body mass index (BMI) of 24.9 or below — this applies to the group without obesity.
  • People without diabetes or pre-diabetes (based on American Diabetes Association guidelines) and who have a BMI between 30.0 and 45.0 — this applies to the group with obesity but no diabetes.
  • People with a confirmed type 2 diabetes diagnosis (based on American Diabetes Association guidelines), a specific blood sugar measure (HbA1c) between 6.5% and 8.0%, and a BMI between 30.0 and 45.0 — this applies to the type 2 diabetes group.
