Who may be able to join
- People aged 18 or older at the time of signing the consent form, of any gender.
- People who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for at least 90 days before the screening visit.
- People who have been managing their diabetes with diet and exercise alone for at least 90 days before the screening visit.
- People whose HbA1c (a blood sugar measurement taken over time) falls between 7.5% and 10.5% at the screening visit.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People with very high blood pressure that is difficult to control — specifically, a top number of 160 or higher, or a bottom number of 100 or higher, at screening, whether or not they are taking blood pressure medication.
- People who have been diagnosed with, or are suspected of having, type 1 diabetes, or other specific or secondary forms of diabetes.
- People with a history of significant blood disorders (such as sickle cell disease, a type of anaemia where red blood cells break down too quickly, or certain bone marrow conditions), or conditions that affect the stability or lifespan of red blood cells (such as malaria or an overactive spleen).
- People with a hormonal condition (such as Cushing's syndrome, or an overactive or underactive thyroid) that may significantly affect body weight — though people with an underactive thyroid may still be considered if their thyroid medication dose has been stable for at least 6 months (confirm with trial site).
- People who have had a serious infection, a major injury, or a moderate-to-large surgery within the 4 weeks before the screening visit.
- People who have taken part in a clinical trial of any medicine or medical device within 12 weeks before screening, which includes having signed a consent form and used an experimental treatment or device (including a placebo); or people who are still within 5 half-lives of a previous trial drug at the time of screening, whichever period is longer (confirm with trial site).
