Who may be able to join

  • Adults aged between 60 and 80 years old.
  • People who have been diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (a form of Parkinson's disease without a known external cause).
  • People who can understand spoken and written Swedish.
  • People who are able to give their own consent to take part in the study.

  • People who meet the trial's definition of "healthy" (confirm with trial site for full details).

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who do not have at least one eye free from retinal disease, glaucoma, or blood vessel problems in the eye (such as an embolism).
  • People with a type of glaucoma called angle-closure glaucoma, or any other condition that means eye-widening (mydriatic) drops cannot safely be used.
  • People whose physical or functional abilities are too limited to take part in the required examinations.
  • People who have been diagnosed with dementia.
  • For people applying as a healthy control participant: those who do not meet the trial's definition of "healthy," which includes having no diagnosed or suspected Parkinson's disease, no diagnosed or suspected cognitive disease, no psychiatric illness that affects thinking (such as a psychotic disorder or major depression), and a score of at least 26 out of 30 on a standard memory and thinking test (MMSE) and at least 8 points on a clock-drawing test.
