Who may be able to join
- Women aged 18 years or older
- People who have already been recommended by a breast specialist team to have a nipple-sparing mastectomy (breast removal while keeping the nipple) with immediate implant reconstruction for one of the following reasons: carrying a gene mutation that increases breast cancer risk (risk-reducing surgery), a non-invasive breast condition called DCIS that requires mastectomy, or early-stage invasive breast cancer requiring mastectomy
- The cancer or breast tissue must not involve the skin, and there must be no signs of invasive disease within 1cm of the skin, nipple, or the chest muscle beneath the breast — as confirmed by MRI scan
- People recommended for immediate breast reconstruction using an implant
- People who are fluent in English
- People who are medically fit to have a general anaesthetic
- People who have signed a form giving their informed consent to take part
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

- People who have previously had radiation therapy to the chest wall
