Who may be able to join

  • People between the ages of 18 and 70 years old (inclusive).
  • People who have symptoms that may be related to diabetes — such as unusual thirst, increased hunger, frequent urination, or unexplained weight loss — and whose doctor has recommended a glucose tolerance test (a test where blood sugar is measured after drinking a sugary drink) to investigate further.
  • People who have blood sugar or related test results that fall in an in-between range: a fasting blood glucose level between 6.1 and below 7.0 mmol/L, and/or a long-term blood sugar marker (HbA1c) between 5.7% and 6.4%.
  • People who have at least one of the following risk factors for diabetes: a body weight category considered above the normal range (BMI of 24 or higher); a parent, brother, sister, or child who has been diagnosed with diabetes; or a personal history of high blood pressure or abnormal cholesterol/fat levels in the blood (or currently being treated for either of these conditions).

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who have already been diagnosed with diabetes.
  • People who have recently taken certain medications that can affect blood sugar levels or gut hormones — such as GLP-1 receptor agonists, DPP-4 inhibitors, or steroid medications — within a specific period before joining the trial (confirm with trial site for exact timeframes).
  • People who have had surgery on the stomach or intestines (such as removal of part of the stomach) or who have a long-term pancreatic condition.
  • People with serious liver or kidney problems — for example, liver enzyme levels more than three times the normal upper limit, or kidney function below a certain level (confirm with trial site).
  • Women who are pregnant, currently breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study.
  • People with a known allergy to soy, as the test meal used in the study may contain soy-based ingredients.
