As a patient with Parkinson's Disease:
- People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease by a neurologist, using recognised international diagnostic guidelines
- People aged between 18 and 75 years old
- People who are able to understand the study and its questionnaires, and follow the study requirements
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part
As a healthy control participant (no Parkinson's Disease):

Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
Applying to both patients and controls:
- People who have been diagnosed with certain digestive or gastrointestinal conditions that could affect study results, such as inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, gastrointestinal cancer, diverticulitis in the last 6 months, or a gastrointestinal infection in the last 3 months (confirm with trial site for full list)
- People who have had major abdominal surgery, such as removal of the gallbladder or colon, or hiatal hernia repair — though some simpler surgeries such as appendix removal or inguinal hernia repair may not apply (confirm with trial site)
- People who have ever taken medication used to treat the movement symptoms of Parkinson's Disease, such as levodopa, dopamine agonists, or related medicines
- People who have taken antibiotics in the last 3 months
- People who have taken proton pump inhibitors (a type of stomach acid medication) in the last month
- People who have taken anti-inflammatory pain medicines (such as ibuprofen) in the last month
- People who are on blood-thinning medications, including warfarin, direct oral anticoagulants, or blood clot prevention injections, or who are on a specific combination of two antiplatelet medicines (confirm with trial site)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have had cancer or cancer treatment within the last 6 months
- People who have had a food poisoning episode in the last 3 months
- People who regularly drink more than 2 standard alcoholic drinks per day
Applying to patients only (additional criteria):
- People who have a major neurological condition other than Parkinson's Disease
Applying to controls only (additional criteria):
- People who have a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease or any other major neurological condition
- People who show physical signs associated with Parkinson's Disease or similar movement disorders
- People who have a close blood relative (parent, sibling, or child) with Parkinson's Disease
- People who meet the clinical diagnostic criteria for functional digestive conditions such as functional dyspepsia, functional constipation, or irritable bowel syndrome
