Who may and may not be able to join
AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI
Who may be able to join
- People who have been clinically diagnosed with Parkinson's disease
- People who have already had a Medtronic Percept deep brain stimulation (DBS) device placed on both sides of the brain as part of their standard treatment for Parkinson's disease
- People whose DBS settings have been medically optimised and stable for at least one month before enrolling in the trial
- People who are able to walk, with or without a walking aid, for 5 continuous minutes
- People who are willing to temporarily stop their Parkinson's medication and turn off their DBS stimulation during certain assessments as part of the trial
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have a level of cognitive impairment that would prevent them from being able to give informed consent to participate
- People who have a neurological condition other than Parkinson's disease, such as multiple sclerosis or stroke
- People whose health screening (using a standard tool called the ACSM Preparticipation Health Screen) indicates that medical clearance is needed before taking part in exercise — participation would require a treating doctor to provide that clearance beforehand, and those for whom clearance is not granted for high-intensity exercise would not be eligible (confirm with trial site)
- People who have a musculoskeletal condition, such as arthritis, osteoporosis, or a back problem, that would limit their ability to take part in exercise
- People who currently have a cardiac arrhythmia (an irregular heartbeat)
