Who may be able to join
- Adults aged 18 to 65 years, of any gender
- People who have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and have not yet taken any diabetes medication

Who may not be able to join

- People who have a type of diabetes other than type 2, such as type 1 diabetes, latent autoimmune diabetes in adults, or diabetes caused by another medical condition (such as certain hormonal disorders)
- People who have had a serious acute diabetes complication, such as diabetic ketoacidosis or a diabetic hyperosmolar coma, in the past 6 months
- People who have had a low blood sugar episode (hypoglycaemia) in the past 6 months
- People who have a history of moderate to severe heart failure, or who have had a serious heart or cardiovascular event (such as a heart attack, stroke, mini-stroke, unstable chest pain, or heart surgery including stents or valve procedures) in the 6 months before the screening visit
- People who have a history of chronic active hepatitis, or serious problems with their liver, kidneys, or thyroid
- People who have a history of cancer
- People who have a history of digestive or bowel conditions that affect how food is absorbed (such as severe diarrhoea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, active stomach ulcers, or acute gallbladder inflammation), or who have had bowel surgery or gallbladder removal within the past year
- People who have had surgery or a serious injury in the past 6 months, or who are planning to have surgery during the study
- People who are currently experiencing a serious infection, severe anaemia, or a dangerously low white blood cell count
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant or father a child during the study or within 3 months after it ends
- People who have taken immunosuppressants, steroids, anti-diarrhoeal drugs, antibiotics, cholesterol-lowering medications, or other gut motility medications in the past 3 months
- People who have used other medications that can affect blood sugar levels in the past 3 months
- People who have used probiotic or prebiotic products in the 3 months before the screening visit
- People who have lactose intolerance, a known or suspected allergy to the probiotics used in the study, a history of drug allergies, or allergic conditions
- People whose weight has changed by 5 kg or more in the past 3 months, or who are planning to take weight-control medication during the study
- People who have a history of mental illness or epilepsy, or who are currently taking antidepressant medications
- People who have a history of heavy alcohol use (more than 40 grams of alcohol per day for men, or more than 20 grams per day for women)
- People who have taken part in another clinical trial in the past 3 months
