Who may be able to join
- Adults aged 18 to 65 years, male or female.
- A liver fat content of 10% or more, measured by a specific type of MRI scan within the 3 months before joining the trial.

Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- Certain abnormal blood test results, including raised liver enzyme levels, raised bilirubin, raised creatinine, reduced kidney filtration rate, low platelet count, abnormal clotting levels, or low albumin (confirm with trial site for specific values).
- Use of any blood sugar–lowering medication in the 3 months before joining the trial.
- Weight loss of 5% or more in the 3 months before joining, or 10% or more in the 6 months before joining, or current use of weight-loss drugs, corticosteroids, or similar medications.
- A history of allergic reactions to a class of diabetes medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists, currently being in an allergic state, having allergic conditions, or having a history of allergies to two or more substances.
- Having type 1 diabetes, a rare single-gene form of diabetes, diabetes caused by pancreatic damage, or another secondary form of diabetes.
- A history of severe itching (pruritus).
- Diabetic eye disease (retinopathy or maculopathy) that is uncontrolled or potentially unstable.
- A personal or family history of a type of thyroid tumour called thyroid C-cell tumour, or a personal or family history of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2.
- A history of acute or chronic inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis).
- Moderate or severe liver scarring (cirrhosis), classified as Child-Pugh grade B or C.
- A positive test result for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, or syphilis.
- Certain heart rhythm problems, including a specific electrical measurement of the heart (QTc interval) that is too long, or any heart or cardiovascular condition that the researcher determines makes participation unsuitable.
- Any condition that affects how the body absorbs, distributes, processes, or removes medications (confirm with trial site).
- Any digestive (gastrointestinal) condition that affects how food is broken down and absorbed.
- Use of certain medications that strongly affect a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 within 14 days before joining or at any point during the trial (confirm with trial site for specific medications).
- A history of cancer (malignant tumour) within the 5 years before joining the trial.
- Three or more serious low blood sugar episodes in the 12 weeks before starting the trial, or a severe blood sugar-related emergency in the same period.
- Drug or alcohol misuse in the 6 months before joining the trial.
- Blood pressure that is not well controlled.
- A diagnosed mental illness or epilepsy.
- An uncontrolled severe infection at the time of joining the trial.
- Currently pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- Participation in another clinical trial in the 3 months before joining this trial.
- Any other condition that the researcher judges would make participation unsuitable.
