Who may be able to join
- People who are 30 years of age or older at the time of screening.
- People who have been clinically diagnosed with established or probable Parkinson's disease.
- People who are currently taking levodopa medication at a stable dose for at least 4 weeks before the study begins, at a daily amount equivalent to at least 400 mg, and who experience movement-related changes such as symptoms wearing off between doses or unpredictable "on" and "off" periods.
- People whose Parkinson's symptoms, when assessed in an "off" state (when medication is not working at its best), are rated at stage 2 or higher on a standard scale used to measure how much Parkinson's disease affects movement and daily life.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have, or have had, other forms of Parkinsonism, related neurological conditions sometimes called "Parkinson-plus" syndromes, or inherited brain or nerve disorders.
- People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's-related dementia or significant memory and thinking problems, as assessed by the trial doctor at screening.
- People who have previously had surgery to treat their Parkinson's disease, or who are planning to have such surgery during the trial.
- People who have, or have had, other diseases affecting the brain or nervous system.
- People who have, or have had, conditions where the immune system attacks the body (autoimmune diseases).
- People who have, or have had, diseases that damage the protective covering around nerves, including conditions such as Guillain-Barré syndrome.
- People who have, or have had, inherited disorders affecting how the body processes certain fats called glycolipids.
- People who have a known allergy to the study drug or any of its ingredients.
