Who may be able to join

  • Adults over 18 years of age
  • People who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease at an early-to-moderate stage, with a higher-than-normal amount of protein (albumin) in their urine

  • People who have taken antibiotics in the 3 months before joining the trial

  • People who have inflammatory bowel disease or another long-term inflammatory condition
  • Women who drink more than 14 units of alcohol per week, or men who drink more than 21 units of alcohol per week
  • People who currently have an active cancer diagnosis
  • People who have previously had bariatric (weight loss) surgery or any other surgical weight loss procedure
  • People who have been diagnosed with an eating disorder, such as bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, or binge-eating disorder
  • People whose HbA1c (a measure of long-term blood sugar levels) is above 9% at the initial screening visit
  • People who are not motivated or are unable to follow a specific diet as required by the trial
  • People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial
