Who may be able to join
- People who have been clinically diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (Parkinson's disease with no known cause) according to a standard set of medical guidelines called the UK Brain Bank Criteria.
- People who have had Parkinson's disease for 5 years or more, to help make sure the diagnosis is accurate.

Who may not be able to join

- People who are at Hoehn-Yahr stage 5, meaning they are confined to a wheelchair or bed due to Parkinson's disease.
- People who have significant memory or thinking difficulties (as measured by a standard test called the MMSE), a history of brain inflammation (encephalitis), or structural abnormalities in the brain detected by CT scan or MRI that may affect brain function.
- People who are currently using probiotic products or have used them in the past 3 months.
- Women who are able to become pregnant (female participants would be asked to avoid pregnancy during the trial and to take a pregnancy test before joining).
- People who currently need antibiotic treatment or have taken antibiotics in the past 3 months.
- People who have severe kidney disease causing a brain condition called uremic encephalopathy, or severe liver scarring (cirrhosis) causing a brain condition called hepatic encephalopathy.
- People whose immune system is significantly weakened or compromised.
