Who may be able to join
- Men or women between 40 and 65 years old
- Of Chinese, Malay, or Indian ethnicity
- Having a Body Mass Index (a measure of body weight relative to height) between 23.0 and 32.0
- Having blood sugar levels that suggest prediabetes, based on specific fasting blood glucose and HbA1c (a 3-month average blood sugar measure) test results

Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, or who do not pass a specific blood sugar test (OGTT) during the screening visit
- People with a history of, or current diagnosis of, heart, hormonal, digestive, blood, liver (hepatitis B or C), kidney, cancer (except a minor skin cancer type called basal cell carcinoma), or other conditions that the study team determines may affect the results
- People currently taking ongoing medications (such as metformin or oral steroids) or supplements that the study team determines may affect blood sugar levels or other study results
- People who have had weight-loss (bariatric) surgery in the past
- People whose body weight has changed by more than 5% in the last 3 months
- Women who are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant
- People who have used illegal drugs within the last 5 years
- People who drink more than 2 alcoholic drinks per day
- People who have smoked in the last 1 year
- People currently following a special diet (such as a ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting, or a calorie-restricted diet) that may interfere with study results
- People who have made major changes to their physical activity or eating habits in the last 3 months
- People who have taken oral antibiotics in the last 3 months
- People currently taking part in another intervention study that the study team determines may affect results
- Staff members of IHDP and SIFBI at A*STAR
