Who may be able to join
- People with type 2 diabetes that is being managed with diet and exercise, and who are also taking metformin and/or a long-acting (basal) insulin.
- People whose blood sugar control measure (HbA1c, a 3-month average blood sugar test) is above 6.5% and no higher than 11.0% at the time of screening.

Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have type 1 diabetes.
- People who have had diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar syndrome (serious diabetes complications) at any point after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
- People who have had at least one episode of severely low blood sugar, or at least one episode where they could not feel the warning signs of low blood sugar, in the 6 months before screening.
- People who have a history of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) or gallbladder disease.
- People who have a personal or family history of a specific type of thyroid cancer (medullary thyroid carcinoma) or a related hormonal condition called multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2.
- People who have taken any blood sugar-lowering medications other than metformin, basal insulin, or SGLT2 inhibitors (a type of diabetes tablet) in the 90 days before screening.
- People who have used prescription or over-the-counter medications intended to help with weight loss in the 90 days before screening.
