Who may be able to join

  • The person has been told by a doctor that they have typical Parkinson's disease.
  • The person is 40 years of age or older.
  • The person lives in the community, such as in their own home, an independent living facility, or senior housing.
  • The person's Parkinson's medications have stayed the same for at least two weeks before joining the study.
  • The person's Parkinson's disease falls within stages 1 to 3 on a standard rating scale, as assessed by a licensed physical therapist during a physical exam.
  • The person is able to walk on their own, without someone physically helping them, for at least 10 minutes (walking aids such as canes or walkers are allowed, as long as the person walks with a normal alternating leg pattern).
  • The person is willing and able to give their agreement to take part in the study.
  • The person agrees to allow the study team to communicate with their main doctor or healthcare provider during the study if needed, in line with privacy rules.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • The person is under 40 years of age.
  • The person has been diagnosed with an atypical form of Parkinsonism (a related but different condition to typical Parkinson's disease).
  • The person's Parkinson's disease is at stage 4 or 5 on the standard rating scale.
  • The person experiences severe, disruptive episodes of suddenly being unable to start or continue walking during daily life, based on a specific questionnaire score (confirm with trial site).
  • The person has fallen more than once a week on average over the past month.
  • The person is currently receiving physical therapy specifically for Parkinson's-related walking difficulties.
  • The person is already doing walking exercise at a moderate level or higher, for at least 30 minutes per session, three or more times per week.
  • The person has heart problems that a doctor has said could make exercise unsafe, such as heart failure, uncontrolled irregular heartbeat, or chest pain.
  • The person has bone, joint, or spine problems in their lower body that may limit how far they can walk, such as severe arthritis, spinal narrowing, or significant pain.
  • The person has any other health condition that the researcher or physical therapist determines would prevent safe or successful participation in the study.
  • The person shows signs of significant cognitive (thinking or memory) difficulties, based on a standard screening test score below a set threshold.
  • The person is unable to walk independently at a comfortable pace meeting a minimum speed requirement, as measured during the first baseline assessment (confirm with trial site).
  • The person has a resting heart rate above 100 beats per minute, or blood pressure that is too high when at rest, as measured by the researcher or physical therapist (confirm with trial site for specific values).
  • The person is unable to use the music-based digital therapy tool on their own during training sessions.
  • The person has significant hearing loss.
