Who may be able to join

  • People aged 50 years or older.
  • People who have at least one of the following signs that may indicate a higher risk of Parkinson's disease: a sleep condition called REM sleep behaviour disorder (where a person acts out their dreams), confirmed by an overnight sleep study; a significant drop in blood pressure when standing up, with an unusual heart rate response; or a reduced sense of smell, measured by a standardised smell identification test.
  • People who are able and willing to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part.
  • People who own a compatible smartphone running Android version 11 or newer (a smartwatch will be provided by the trial for the duration of the study).

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who have already been clinically diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
  • People currently taking medications used to treat Parkinson's disease — such as levodopa, dopamine agonists, MAO-B inhibitors, or amantadine — unless taking a low dose solely for restless leg syndrome and the investigator gives permission.
  • People who have dementia, meaning a decline in thinking and memory severe enough to affect everyday activities.
  • People currently being treated with certain medications — neuroleptics, reserpine, or metoclopramide — as these can interfere with a specific type of brain scan used in the trial; these medications would need to have been stopped for at least 6 months before the screening visit (confirm with trial site).
  • People who are pregnant.
  • People who are currently taking part in another interventional clinical study.
  • People who are unwilling or unable to provide written informed consent.
  • People who are considered "vulnerable individuals" as defined by the Health Research Authority (HRA) (confirm with trial site).
  • People who, in the investigator's judgement, are unable to use the smartwatch or the mAI-Health app required for the study.
