Who may not be able to join

  • People who have had an HbA1c blood test (a measure of average blood sugar levels) with a clear result in the past three months, or who have completed a standardised diabetes screening programme in the past six months.
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding at the time of joining the trial.
  • People who have an active thyroid condition or another active hormonal disorder, such as Cushing's syndrome or acromegaly, at the time of joining.
  • People with a known blood disorder affecting haemoglobin, severe anaemia, recent significant blood loss, or who have had a blood transfusion or donated blood in the past three months.
  • People who are currently receiving treatments that could significantly affect how HbA1c test results are interpreted, such as erythropoietin therapy or a recent course of high-dose iron treatment.
